Abdul Basit 'Abd us-Samad (1927 - 1988) is a famous Egyption Qur'an reciter (hafiz). Basit was also reciting with Minshawi, there is a picture of Basit reciting while Minshawi was standing to the side. Basit has been to many countries in Asia, and was once in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He died in 1988 as some people believe due to his breathing. One of his children, Yasir Basit, is also a famous Quran reciter.
